The AFH blogsposts have been coming a little less frequently than usual. Shane is prepping for his application submission to Cooper Union. I’ve been doing schoolness, too.
For the past month I’ve been taking a couple of core classes for my Masters in Arts and Cultural Management. The program balances business courses with curricula that focuses on - yup - arts n cultural management. It’s been awesome, including presentations, Q & A, etc with amazing career arts pros like Jessica Cusick of the Santa Monica Cultural Affairs Division, Steve Gutwillig, former director of Outfest, Leigh Ann Hahn of Grand Performances, John McGuirk of the Irvine Foundation and others, including a sitdown on Thursday for Victoria Bryan’s course on policy with Long Beach East Village arts advocates at Utopia.
For my MAACM course with Laura Zucker, I spoke with Mark Allen of Machine Project. The topic on the table was board + staff dynamics in nonprofit arts organizations. Mark was kind enough to answer a couple of questions on the issue.

I’ve also been building proposals and doing apps for expos, residencies etc.
